Poplar vs. Oak
Both of these woods look beautiful and are finished smooth to provide grip and comfort without the abrasion of polymer hangboards. Red oak is a harder wood that will provide better resistance against scratches, dings, and dents, and has a more prominent and aesthetic grain. Poplar is much easier to work with, and has a lower raw material cost than oak, which allows the very economical pricing of the poplar versions of our hangboards.
Cosmetic Defects
We have very high quality standards, and occasionally a scratch, dent, chipped corner, or minor imperfection will render one of our hand-crafted hangboards as a “cosmetic defect”. As a company founded with values of sustainability and reduction of waste, we cannot bear to discard these slightly imperfect items, so we make them available to you at a discounted price. So save some money, and take pride in that scratch — it adds character.
